"Which Way?" Easter 5A (May 18, 2014)

Psalm31 In you, OGod, I seek refuge; do not let me ever be put to shame; in your righteousness deliver me.Incline your ear to me; rescue me speedily. Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me.You are indeed my rock and my fortress; for your name’s sake lead me and guide me, take me out of the net that is hidden for me, for you are my refuge.Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, OHoly One, faithful God.My times are in your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors.Let your face shine upon your servant; save me in your steadfast love.
John 14:1-14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In God’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way to the place where I am going.”Thomas said to h…

“Can You See It?” Easter 3A (May 4, 2014)

Luke 24:13-49 Now on that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all these things that had happened. While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. And he said to them, “What are you discussing with each other while you walk along?”They stood still, looking sad. Then one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who does not know the things that have taken place there in these days?”He asked them, “What things?”They replied, “The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things took place. Moreover…

“Where Do We Go From Here?” Easter 2A (April 27, 2014)

John 20:19-31 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the religious leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Teacher. Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Creator has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” Now Thomas (also known as Didymus, or the Twin), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Teacher!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the …

Colossians 3:1-4 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
John 20:1-18 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.  So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Teacher out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb.  Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips…

"Dropping the Luggage" Lent 5A (April 6, 2014)

Psalm 130 Out of the depths I cry to you, O God;      God, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.  If you, O Holy One, kept a record of sins,     God, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you. I wait for the Holy One, my whole being waits, and in God’s word I put my hope. I wait for the Holy One     more than watchmen wait for the morning,     more than watchmen wait for the morning. Israel, put your hope in God,     for with the Eternal One is unfailing love     and with God is full redemption. God’s very self will redeem Israel from all their sins.
John 11:1-45 Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair.) So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Teacher, the one you love is sick.” When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. N…
